THE OTTLIK PICTURE BOOK

The first in the Museum’s picture book series is a sequel to the Fotótéka [Phototheque] series (an annotated collection of all the pictures of Hungarian writers) launched more than twenty years ago. Géza Ottlik is one of our most popular writers and literary translators.

Selected from among the more than 500 photos in his bequest kept in the photograph collection of the Art Collection, the professional and amateur photographs supplemented with the players and scenes from a life trace an unusual, colourful and pictorial life story. The motto chosen from the quotations selected from works by Ottlik connects the prose and pictorial worlds of the picture book: ‘Even fifty years later it is possible to enlarge great splits and releases, because the master-negatives are still there, although often you may not even realise that you have kept them.’ (Buda)
